FAQ
How does VirtID Email work?
Read here for a detailed description.
What's Unique About VirtID Email?
There are other "Disposable Email Account" services, but they don't
offer one of VirtID's most important assets: Identifying legitimate
email by the first company or person who sends to it. If only YourBank.com
should be sending you email at that address, then others are spam.
Other serivces also suffer from one or more of the following limitations:
- Have to read the email somewhere other than your normal mailbox. With VirtID, the mail goes to your regular mailbox. No need to check another mailbox -- or forget to check, which might be worse.
- Too disposable -- their email addresses go away too soon. VirtID email addresses last as long as you want them to; forever, if you'd like. Thus you can be sure an address will work when you need it.
- Limited number of messages. Some services limit the number of emails received through an address. With VirtID that's an option if you want it, but not a requirement.
- Yearly fees. VirtID charges by the month, and you can cancel any time for a refund.
- No way to send mail back. While you often don't need to send mail back using a public address, with VirtID you can.
- The sender can't effectively sell your email address. With some services, you give the sender an address like user.keyword@somewhere, but they could sell that address and it would still be valid. You'd still get spam. But not with VirtID's "First Recipient" identification.
- Hard to use. VirtID is simple; even more so with the one-click toolbar for Firefox.
Not to mention with VirtID's referral program you can earn money; the
others don't offer that.
How Many VirtIDs can I create?
We set the limit at 1,000 per account to avoid abuse, but if you need
more for some reason please contact us.
Is There a Limit on the Number of Emails Forwarded?
No.
Is There a Limit on the Size of Emails Forwarded?
Yes, 10Mb (per email), but be aware that your ISP may have a limit lower
than that. If you have some reason to need to receive larger emails
via VirtID please contact us.
